Dad, Grandpa, Gramps, Papa, Grandpa Mac, Uncle Mac, George McKenzie Raemer, Mac; has raised that one inquisitive, charming eyebrow for the final time.
He’s snuck his last dessert, given his last hugs, carved his last bird, sipped his last craft beer, danced one last two-step, and made the final putt.
At 94, he left on his own terms, charming the heck out of everyone he encountered. His accomplishments were many, both personal and professional. All of them were characterized by a deep love of, and service to, family and community.
He was a Second World War veteran, a councillor and mayor, a merchant and postmaster and most of all a loving son, brother, uncle, husband, father, stepfather, father-in-law, grandfather, and perhaps most especially great-grandpa.
He lit up our lives and counseled us well. He was a gentleman, an incredible role model and just a tiny bit of a scoundrel! His greatest legacy is the love he gave us all.
Today, if you have a moment, raise a glass of (good) beer or grab an extra cookie in honour of Mac.
