George Trout Obituary

George William Trout passed away on November 18th, 2020, at the age of 95 years.

George was born in Bashaw, Alberta, attended school there and later moved to Calgary with his parents in 1943.

George had two guiding rules for living life: serve your country, and provide for your family.

In 1944 he joined the Canadian Army, saw active service as a Gunner and Dispatch Rider in France and Germany.  He was awarded the France – Germany Star and the Volunteer Service medal.  He was also wounded as a result of sniper fire. He was discharged in 1946.

He then began work at Alberta Wood Products as a cabinet maker and later opened Allied Woodcraft and operated it until he retired in 1990.

When he married his wife Agnes in 1970, he raised her daughter, Belinda, as his own.  When his friend John Young passed away, he promised to take care of his wife Trudy. She immediately became part of the family and remains so to this day.  Anyone else who needed a meal or place to go at Christmas was always welcome. His children’s dogs were adopted by George and became “his” dogs.  They loved him in return.

George led his life on these two rules and never made things more complicated than they had to be.  He wasn’t into Yoga , never did a lick of exercise, and didn’t know or care about healthy eating.  He enjoyed his Happy Hours, never seemed to worry and was always good for a long conversation – some of it true, some of it not.  He probably left a few Doctors confounded once he passed 70 years old, but if it is any consolation, he did threaten to die at least once a week for the last twenty years.

George was an avid duck hunter when he was young.  He turned to gardening when he grew older.  He liked beer, chewing tobacco, and fast cars when he was young.  He liked beer, chewing tobacco, and fast cars when he grew older.  Life was uncomplicated.  That was his secret to longevity.

George is survived by his wife Agnes; daughter Belinda Reay (David); brother Allan Trout (Margaret); and granddaughter Crystal Voortman; as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by his parents William and Freda, his son Robert Trout as well as his siblings Vera, Donald, Phillip, Burt, Doris and Muriel.

We are going to miss you Uncle George.

A private Funeral Service is being held in Bashaw and George will be laid to rest in the family plot at  the Bashaw Cemetery.
