Freda Schatschneider Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Freda Clara Schatschneider on December 27th, 2020 at the age of 96 years.

Freda was born in Wetaskiwin on December 14, 1924 and was the eldest daughter of Conrad and Clara Leinweber. She had one sister, Mary Ganske; and was predeceased by her infant sister, Margaret.

She Grew up west of the Wetaskiwin Golf Course and as the eldest, had to help with the farm work. Working side by side with her dad she learnt at an early age how to do many things. Life was not easy but there was some time for play with the many neighborhood kids. She told many stories of the fun times they had had.

She met the love of her life, Ed Schatschneider and they were married on January 16, 1945 in Wetaskiwin. She was a devoted wife, wonderful cook, caring friend and fabulous seamstress, doing alterations for many years. There wasn't much that Freda couldn’t do, and anything she couldn't, she taught herself how. Although she worked out at several jobs over the years, but she could always be found alongside her husband in their many lifelong endeavors.

After her husband passed in 1996, Freda took to making quilts. We estimate that she made approximately 100 quilts over the years. Everyone in the family has at least one.

In May of 2018 she moved into Peace Hills Lodge where she enjoyed some much deserved pampering.

Mom was a kind and gentle soul. She loved everyone and had many lifelong friendships. She never complained about anything. She never wanted for many material things. What she had was always good enough. She enjoyed traveling, fun times, visiting with family and friends, and a good competitive card game.

We will miss her beyond words.
