It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, step-father, grandfather, uncle and friend.
After many years of working as groundskeeper at the Red Deer Regional Hospital, he retired and spent his final years puttering in his garden and his garage, looking after numerous vehicles throughout the years. Gene had a love for gardening and was generous in giving away zucchini, peas, carrots, potatoes, ect. from his abundance. He was well known as the "neighborhood watch", as he spent long periods at the living room window, with his cup of Nabob coffee, watching the neighborhood go by. Many of the neighbors looked forward to seeing him at the window and his waves.
He had a special love for children, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his cherished wife of 51 years, Doreen; step-children Curtis Gehring, and Charmaine (Ed)Hagel; grandchildren Kimberly (Carl) Elliott, Gary (Lorissa) Hagel, and Clayton (Hanna) Gehring; as well as numerous brothers and sisters.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at the Bashaw Community Church.
