Ernst Devries was born, June 17, 1952, in Gorredijk (the Netherlands) and passed away peacefully on November 10, 2024, with family by his side in Red Deer, Alberta, after a short battle with cancer.
He is predeceased by his brother Pieter and parents, Aukje and Pieter.
Ernst immigrated to Canada in 1977 and after getting married to his loving wife Winnie, was blessed with 5 Children, Pieter, Miriam (Andrew) Mathias, Hendrik (Kimberly) Roger (Michaela) as well as 8 Grandchildren. After 17 years in the Greenhouse industry, Ernst decided to pursue a calling in the Seafarers ministry at the Port of Vancouver and Roberts Bank. He enjoyed this work to the fullest and his work has had a lasting impact on many.
Ernst was diagnosed with cancer in late October 2024 and after a short battle with the disease, he passed into glory on the morning of November 10, 2024, with his wife of nearly 40 years, Winnie and son Roger by his side. We rest in the knowledge that he is with his Savior and no longer in any pain.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, at Sonrise Ponoka Christian Reformed Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are gratefully accepted to The Mission to Seafarers, 401 E Waterfront Rd, Vancouver, BC V6A 4G9.
