Ernest Glasel was born on June 14, 1931 to Jacob and Hulda Glasel of Pendryl, Alberta. They were recent immigrants from Poland and homesteaded just south of the Pendryl General Store. He grew up on the family farm with his six siblings and after his primary education he worked as a ranch hand (Cowboy) in Southern Alberta. His love of horses continued throughout his life.
His father Jacob passed away unexpectedly in 1947. Ernest moved back to the homestead permanently in 1952. In 1957 his mother Hulda married Gustav Quast of Falun and moved away from the family farm. Ernest then purchased the homestead from her and continued to farm in the summers and work in the oil field in the winters for the next 25 years.
In 1984 he sold the original homestead at Pendryl and purchased a farm near Ferintosh, Alberta which he farmed for the next 20 years. During that period, he also retired from working in the oilfield. In 2004 he sold his farm at Ferintosh and purchased a farm just a few miles north of the Pendryl General Store which he always felt was his true home. He happily resided there attending local auction sales and reminiscing with others about life until his recent passing.
Ernest was predeceased by his parents, Jacob Glasel (1947) and Hulda Glasel (1996); siblings, Albert Glasel (1991), Leokadia Bernes (2002) and Otto Bernes (1985), Irma Gensler (2005), Rodney Glasel (2014), Betty Glasel (2021); as well as his nieces & nephews, Terry Jacobs (2021), Gordon Bernes (2022) and Leslie Bernes (2024).
He is survived by his brother, Arthur Glasel of Buck Lake; sister, Ruth Glasel of Edmonton; brother-in-law, Eric Genslerof Edmonton; as well as his sister-in-law, Mary Glasel of Lacombe.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at the Buck Lake Community Hall at 1:00 p.m. followed by a burial at Maywood Cemetery.
