On October 23,2024, after a brief illness, Emil Stauss of Bashaw, Alberta passed away peacefully at the age of 93 years, in the presence of his loving niece.
Emil was born on June 21,1931 in Poland to Julius and Wanda Stauss. He grew up on their farm in Poland where he also attended school. In 1944 he immigrated to Germany with his parents and younger sister Helga. They later immigrated to Canada in 1949, first to Spiritwood SK, and later to Bashaw in 1951. Here he worked on threshing crews, the railroad, and in the lumber yard.
Emil was a talented tailor by trade and eventually became co owner of Jim Walker’s Men’s Wear in Stettler. He lived and worked in Stettler until his retirement in 1990, after which time he re-settled in Bashaw. Emil enjoyed attending dances, and bowling. He loved to spend time with his parents, sister, and her family, as well as extended family. He enjoyed visiting Germany, Hawaii, and BC. He was an avid gardener with an incredible green thumb. He was fluent and literate in German, Polish, and English. He was a kind, gentle, and generous man who was always willing to step up with a helping hand wherever and whenever needed. He is missed beyond measure.
Emil was predeceased by his parents, sister, and brother-in-law Earl. He is survived by his loving niece and nephew, Rhonda and Bradley Berry, and their families.
At his request, a cremation has taken place, to be followed by a private graveside burial service.
