Elmer Fraser Provost
January 30, 1923 - February 7, 2020
It is with great sadness that the family of Elmer Fraser Provost (JB) announces his passing on Friday, February 7 at the age of 97 years. He passed away peacefully at home in Windermere, B.C., with his daughters by his side. He celebrated his 97th birthday with family and friends just eight days before his passing. Elmer was born in Hughenden, AB, raised in Wetaskiwin, married in Calgary, where all four of his children were born. The family moved to Edmonton in 1965 where he spent much of his career.
Elmer is survived by three of his children, Leanne Garner, David (Josee) Provost and Donna Provost. He will also be fondly remembered by his special cousin, Kathy and seven grandchildren, Sharon and Shaun Provost, Tim and Scott Garner, Sarah, Jeff and Dawson Provost as well as numerous great-grandchildren. He will also be greatly missed by his surviving siblings, Keith Provost, Clare (Lanie) Provost and Dorien/Dean (John) Jackson. He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Phyllis in 2013, and his eldest son, Martin in 2017.
After Phyllis’ passing he continued to do some travelling. With his daughters and cousins, Helen and Kathy, he enjoyed a cruise to the Caribbean and a trailer trip to the Northwest Territories. His last trailer trip was with Donna to Washington State to visit relatives.
Elmer’s favourite place was at his cabin in Windermere, B.C., where he spent much of his last six years.
A Visitation and Dedication will occur between 10:30 and 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at the First United Church (5115-51 Avenue) in Wetaskiwin, with interment to follow immediately after at the Wetaskiwin Memorial Cemetery (4701 - 63 Avenue). A Celebration of his Life will follow at 12:00 p.m., at First United Church with Rev. Ruth Lumax officiating.
