Elizabeth "Betty Ann" Green Obituary

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, Betty Ann Green, who left us too soon on September 16, 2025 after a brief and sudden battle with cancer.

Betty Ann was the middle child of John and Jennie Bibo and was born in Drumheller, Alberta. She was raised on a mixed farm at Magrath, Alberta, and took all her early education there. Her caregiving, cooking skills, and love of gardening and flowers were developed early, as she was preparing meals and caring for her younger brother while her older sister and parents worked in the fields growing alfalfa, cereal crops, and sugar beets. The family also raised a large garden with flower beds and fruit trees.

After high school graduation, Betty Ann enrolled in the nursing program at the Calgary General Hospital School of Nursing, where she graduated in 1969.

Her 45-year nursing career began at the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary on a surgical unit and later pediatrics. In 1978, a move to the Morningside area south of Ponoka found her working on call and casual positions in several areas at the Centennial Centre in Ponoka. In 1996, she took a permanent part- time position in geriatric nursing.

In 2000, a move to the farm in the Homeglen district with her husband Bob saw her vegetable and flower gardens both expand. Mom had an eye for creativity and a gift for making things beautiful, whether in her home or in her yard. She loved gardening and could grow anything, sharing her bountiful harvest with neighbors, friends, and family. Her love for gardening showed in every flowerbed, every blooming plant, and her immaculate yard that was admired by all. She was also an incredible cook. Her family will especially remember her soft, delicious buns, her famous cabbage rolls, and the stuffing and gravy that no one could quite replicate.

She retired from active nursing in 2014. Her mother instilled in her the values of hard work, thrift, and generosity. She lived these lessons daily - frugal yet classy, resourceful yet giving. She shared freely from her garden, grew enough to feed ten families, and found joy in giving to others. She was a passionate, hardworking, smart, talented, and strong woman who survived non-Hodgkins large B-cell lymphoma in 2004 and open-heart surgery in 2019.

Above all, Mom's greatest joy was her family. She was a proud and devoted mother and grandmother, always there to cheer on her grandchildren, whether at the hockey rink, the ball diamond, the volleyball court, or any of their activities. Even if she didn’t always understand the game, her presence and support never wavered.

She will be remembered for her kindness, her green thumb, and her unwavering love for her family. Her legacy will live on in the family she adored and the love she poured into everything she touched.

She is survived by and deeply missed by her husband of 55 years, Bob; her children Cody (Bridget) and Kelly (Clint) Huse; and her five beautiful grandchildren: Hudson, Peyton, Tenessy, Ty, and Kate. She is also survived by her brother John (Dena) of Camrose; sister Irene (Eli) of Sherwood Park; as well as several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church (livestream link available below). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you plant something in her honor, so her love of growing and nurturing may continue.

Forever loved, deeply missed, and always remembered.
