“Bobby” Dwight Richard Pugh, a devoted farmer, proud cowboy, and beloved member of the Ponoka community, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the age of 71.
Born on November 15, 1953, in Ponoka, Bobby grew up with a deep love for the land and the open pasture. From an early age, he learned the values of hard work and perseverance, while putting miles on his beloved horse, Revel, with cousin Wally along side. You could quite often find them north of the farm at the river playing Cowboys and Indians, with the Indians!
Bobby spent his days working the fields, tending his livestock, and keeping the family farm thriving through good years and some very lean ones. When he wasn’t on the tractor, he could often be found in the rodeo arena. His favorite event was riding bareback horses, but he also competed in the timed events. He took extreme pride when he would win the around title. After his competition days were over you would find him opening chutes at the Ponoka Stampede or traveling the rodeo trail with his children all over western Canada and into the states. This led to judging junior and high school rodeos in central Alberta where he would cheer on every kid and took pride in their successes.
Nothing brought him greater joy than when he finally became a grandpa at the age of 63. His grandkids were his pride and joy, and he never missed a chance to brag about them or share their latest adventures. No one could get them more riled up than him!
Bobby’s life was an adventure. When he was around there was never a dull moment. He had a way of creating a good story with him often being the main character! He would tell stories of himself making everyone laugh.
We often get a kick out of how he would end his conversations with his signature farewell “talk”!
He is survived by his wife, and love of his life of 47 years, Connie; son Jason; daughters Melissa (Tyler) and Margo (Jesse); grandchildren Winston, Leah, Dayva and Flint; mother Georgette; and siblings Janet, Lynn, Lori, Dwayne and David. He was preceded in death by his father Richard “Dick” and sister Carolyn.
A private family service is being held. Family and friends are invited to attend an Social - Memorial Gathering at the Stagecoach Event Centre on the Ponoka Stampede Grounds with doors opening at 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Angela Hall, a young mother of three from Rimbey seeking medical treatment outside Alberta for her recent cancer diagnosis, or any charity of your choice.
Gates of memories will never close, how much I miss you no one knows. Days will pass away into years, and we’ll think about those memories with silent tears.
