Dr. Ronald Tratch B.A., DDS Obituary

October 8, 1940 - March 24, 2025

It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Dr. Ronald Allan Tratch B.A., DDS, in Mazatlan, Mexico on March 24, 2025 at the age of 84.

A Memorial Mass was held on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Holy Family Church, Mazatlan, MX.  Funeral Mass will be held on April 22, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Parish, Wetaskiwin, AB. Donations to honor Ronald’s life may be made to a charity of personal choice.

Dr. Ronald Allan Tratch B.A., DDS, a man of quiet strength, was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on October 8, 1940. He grew up in the small village of Alvena, where he worked alongside his father in their family’s town store. After high school, he moved to Edmonton to pursue higher education, graduating in the class of 1965 from the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Alberta.

Ron met his future wife, Rose Kaminsky, at St. Josaphat's Ukrainian Catholic church in Edmonton, and were married on July 3, 1965. They started building their life and dental practice together in Rosthern, Saskatchewan, before moving to Wetaskiwin, Alberta in 1979. The dental practice served the community for 44 years, and Ron retired in 2009. During their time together, Ron and Rose were blessed with seven children, 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He found joy in the outdoors, spending countless hours tending to his land - planting trees, gardening, and creating a beautiful space where his family gathers. During his retirement, he created and tended to his spiritual trail where he found comfort in sharing his faith with the people he loved. Ron began to express himself through poetry, creating so many poems and reflections in his later years that have been turned into books to share with his family.

Ron and Rose’s love for adventures led them around the world, often with a focus on dental mission work. Eventually in their retirement, they made Mazatlán, Mexico their second home, where they were both deeply involved in the church community of Holy Family.

Ron was a man of patient love, steady and unwavering. He never needed to raise his voice to be heard—his actions spoke louder than words. He faced life’s challenges with grace and resilience, teaching not just how to endure hardships but how to rise above them and live with integrity, faith, and love.

Preceded in joining the Lord; parents, Olga & Michael Tratch; children, Sonia, James & Andrew Tratch, sister, Elaine Holinaty and brother, Eugene Tratch.

Ronald is survived by his wife Rose (nee Kaminsky); children, Maria Chrunik (George), Michael Tratch, Lesia Knowlton (Owen) and Katherine Andreychuk (Kris); grandchildren, Christopher Chrunik (Erin), Michael Chrunik (Christie), James Chrunik, Anna Black (Phillip), Alayna Chrunik (Jared), Shea, Justina Knowlton, Claire, Adam and Elizabeth Andreychuk; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Theodore, Felix and Leo Chrunik, Xaiver, Scarlett and Vivienne Black; brother, Morris Tratch and a number of nephews and nieces.

If desired, donations to honour Ronald’s life may be made to a charity of personal choice.
