Douglas Milton Docken of Ponoka, Alberta passed away at the South Health Campus in Calgary on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at the age of 68 years.
He was born to Gilman and Johanna Docken on December 9th, 1957 in Edmonton Alberta, they lived on the family farm at Lindale. He was the 3rd youngest in a family of 13, and left home at the age of 16 to explore a career on service rigs and continued on to the bigger rigs working his way up from roughneck to Toolpush.
Doug had a brief marriage at a young age and had a child which resulted in him getting his most precious gift of all, his loving granddaughter Bryn.
He then started coring for Foothills and Nova which he did for approximately 10 years. After that adventure he decided to try the trucking industry, working for several companies before he settled into the Calnash Trucking family, and then the rest was history.
Doug is survived by his adored granddaughter Bryn; special friend and companion Tracy and her children; stepchildren Mandy, AJ (Hailee), Samantha (Lloyd) and their children; brothers Ralph and Elmer; sisters Christine, Florence (Dan), Charlene (Curtis); and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; along with numerous family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Gilman and Johanna; siblings Darlene, Ronald, Norman, Roy, Clarence, Alfred, and Dorthy; sisters-in-law, Linda, Vera, Laura, and Vivian.
We have tried to touch on every aspect of Doug’s life but because he touched so many areas of so many lives in so many ways, it is hard to put into words how much he truly meant to so many people. But when we look around the room, we realize that he was cherished beyond measure and there are simply not enough words to every say all that he truly meant to everyone.
So today, let’s not only cry for the loss of such a wonderful man, but also remember all the jokes he has shared with everyone around this room; rejoice on how much joy and laughter he has brought to this world.
The family has invited anyone to join for a public viewing on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at Ponoka Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. A Celebration Of Life will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at the Moose Hall, Ponoka at 1:00 p.m.
