It is with deep love and fond remembrance that the family of Dorothy Jean Houghton announces her passing. Dorothy was born on August 30, 1941, in Bentley, Alberta, to Walter and Elva Tschabold. She was predeceased by her parents, and by her brothers Lawrence Tschabold and Raymond Tschabold (Alice).
Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her family: her son Micheal Huff (Shawna); her grandson Daryl Huff and his sons Damien, Kash, and Kody; her granddaughter Shantel Huff and her sons Hunter and Maximus. She is also survived by Donna McClaren and granddaughters Sheila (John) and children Coy and Cort, Angela (Cam) and son Dawson; as well as Ron Houghton (Paula) and granddaughters Amy and Lindsey. Dorothy's memory will also be cherished by her nephew Frank Tschabold (Wilma) and niece Yvonne (Carl).
Dorothy dedicated her life to education, beginning her teaching career in 1968 with the County of Ponoka/WCPS. She retired in 1996, but her passion for teaching continued as she worked as a substitute teacher until 2007. Her impact on countless students and families will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A proud and active member of the Ponoka Legion and Ladies Auxiliary, Dorothy joined both in 1993. Throughout her years of service, she held several leadership roles, including President of the Legion in 2000-2001 and 2008-2009, and President of the Ladies Auxiliary in 2004. She also served as Sergeant-at-Arms and Secretary-Treasurer during her tenure. Her dedication and service earned her numerous awards and medals, including the prestigious Palm Leaf, the highest recognition within both the Legion and Ladies Auxiliary. In 2008, Dorothy was honored with Life Membership in the Ladies Auxiliary.
Dorothy was a devoted member of St. Mary's Anglican Church for over 30 years, where she served faithfully on the church vestry and as church warden. Her contributions included maintaining church financial records, participating in altar guild duties, and volunteering for countless church teas and events. She was also a proud lifelong member of the Anglican Church Women (ACW).
In addition to her faith and community service, Dorothy was an avid traveler, exploring destinations far and wide—including memorable trips to China and beyond.
Dorothy will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, her faith, and her community. Her warmth, dedication, and kindness touched all who knew her.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at St. Mary's Anglican Church, Ponoka.
