Dennis Pike Obituary

A Memorial Celebration will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at Baker Funeral Chapel (5302 50 Avenue, Wetaskiwin). Following the service, a memorial luncheon will take place at the First United Church (5115 51 Ave, Wetaskiwin).

The family of Dennis Pike expresses its gratitude for the overwhelming support from friends and community leaders who have rallied around them over these past, difficult, few months. Dennis, who succumbed to a sudden illness April 25, leaves behind a devoted family and a legacy of community involvement and service. Through decades of service, leadership, and quiet generosity. Dennis was a man whose life was marked by a steadfast commitment to this community.

Nicknamed "The Chairman" by a close cadre of friends dubbed the slate, Dennis offered sage advice often with wry wit and a genuine impish smile.

Wetaskiwin born, Dennis returned to his beloved community with wife Patricia to open a small law practice on Main Street in 1977. He concentrated on real estate, wills, and other personal legal matters, as the two began to build their lives and family here.

But the pull of civic service was also strong. His father Jack Pike had already served as this City's mayor on two separate occasions and by 1982, Dennis entered the political fray serving on council in '82 and again in '85. He brought thoughtfulness, integrity, and a steady hand to public service.

His contributions went beyond Council chambers. As a former president of the Wetaskiwin Chamber of
Commerce, Dennis championed local business and economic development with both passion and pragmatism.

His volunteerism branched out. Long before shovels were in the ground to build Wetaskiwin's iconic RAM, Dennis served as President of the Friends of the Reynolds-Alberta Museum Society. Four years prior to the museum's opening in '92, FRAMS was laying the framework as a volunteer driven society to promote the museum at home and abroad. Even now, that same society continues to provide support to the museum's educational programs,
complementary to Alberta's education curriculum focused on mechanized transportation, agriculture, and aviation.

His guidance was also instrumental in the success of the Wetaskiwin Air Show, where he dedicated his time and talents to one of the region's most beloved events. That legacy of civic responsibility was something Dennis embraced-not for accolades or recognition, but out of a genuine desire to see his community thrive. With an approachable, amicable manner and sense of fairness, he was a trusted advisor to many. But he was so much more. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was also a cherished friend who is already sorrowfully missed.

He leaves behind his beloved wife Pat, three children and their spouses: Katherine (Eric), Brian (Katrina), and Steven (Katherine); and six cherished grandchildren: Cameron, Mackinley, William, Donna, Neil, and Betty.

Dennis' family would like to acknowledge the outstanding care he received at the Wetaskiwin Hospital in his last days, particularly from the nursing staff on the fourth floor. In recognition of his service, City flags were lowered to half-mast. A solemn gesture for a man who carried the weight of this community with humility and care. Dennis' legacy is not only found in policies passed or committees led, but in the values he lived by: duty, kindness, and community. Wetaskiwin is stronger because he lived here.

There's an old Greek proverb that says "A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit." Well... Dennis planted a forest. We offer our deepest condolences to his family and hold them close in our hearts during this time of sorrow.
