It is with heavy hearts that the family of Dennis Beck announces his passing on Monday, February 16, 2026, at his home at the age of 77. He will be forever remembered by his loving wife, Hilary; children, Amanda (Mike) Joblinski, Steven (Jamie Laing) Beck, Matt (Karla) Beck, Chris (Caitlin) Beck; grandchildren, Walker, Lucas, Theo, and Addilyn; his grand dogs, Angus and Pippin; and his extended family; his brother, Ken (Jane) Beck; brother-in-law, Adrian (Lois) Maplethorpe; sister-in-law, Barb Beck; brother-in-law, David Maplethorpe; and many other nieces, nephews, family members, and friends in Canada and England that brought him joy and happiness.
Dennis was born and raised in Grantham, England and started his apprenticeship at age 14. He, along with his two brothers, Ken and Trevor, opened a fabrication shop. Before immigrating to Canada his passions included motorcycles, driving the MGC sports car, playing soccer, and the boat he shared with his brothers. Dennis visited Canada in 1975 and met his future wife, Hilary, changing everything. He immigrated to Canada with his mother and two brothers in 1976 days before his wedding to Hilary. After this, Dennis was dedicated to raising his family of four and building his business. Adjusting to a new country was not without challenges, but he met them head-on. He realized that snow and winter were the new normal for many months of the year and after registering his young boys for hockey, he became their number one fan.
Dennis will be remembered for his dedication to his work and family. Dennis was a business owner in Wetaskiwin, Alberta who built his company (Masco) out of the barn on his acreage and grew it into the thriving business his three sons now run. Dennis tried never to miss a dance recital, concert, soccer or hockey game for his children and grandchildren and was their biggest supporter. He was also a dad and friend to many others whom he considered his extended family. He loved his time at his place in the mountains in Kimberley, B.C., hunting for the best fish and chips, and watching the birds, deer, and animals at his acreage while watching Tucker, the latest special dog in his life.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents, William and May Beck; in-laws, Walter and Doreen Maplethorpe; his brother, Trevor Beck; his sisters-in-law, Valerie Dewald and Carolyn Maplethorpe; and his best dog, Bert.
All of our family would like to say a special thank you to everyone who reached out, supported us, and showed kindness through this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honoured to have donations made to the Stollery in Dennis’ name.
