David Christie Obituary

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of David Richard Christie, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother and friend on Saturday March 9, 2024 at the age of 77 years. He left us peacefully surrounded by both family and friends.

David was born at the Edmonton General Hospital on April 3rd, 1946 to Helen (Carlson) Rode. He was adopted by Lloyd and May Christie on April 13, 1946. He attended school in Edmonton, Pipestone School, Calmar High School and Pigeon Lake Regional High School. He then continued on to further his education at the Southern Alberta Institution of Technology in the Automotive Mechanics Program. Upon finishing he went to work at gas plants in Whitecourt, Gilby and Edmonton. He later on got his ticket as a Millwright in Edmonton and did machinist work as well. After he retired he took a new career path and enjoyed the time he worked in his sons cigar store one day a week. On December 7th, 1968 David married Linda Watt at the Mulhurst United Church. David spent his life creating memories with family and friends who are like family and will be best remembered as a true and loyal forever friend. He shared good times with them especially enjoying trips to Disneyland, Walt Disney World and Indio, California.

He will be forever remembered and is survived by loving wife Linda; sons James Christie (Jamie Magee), Jerad Christie (Tammy Musiowsky-Borneman) and daughter Jen Christie (Ray McCoy); grandchildren Brock (Courtney) Berger, Dayne (Amber) Livingston, Montanna (René-Michel) Barrette, Brody Christie (Kierra Wuzinski), Kealey Greydanus and Mariah McCoy; great-grandchildren Easton and Isabella Berger, Olivia Livingston and Oakley Barrette; brothers Alfred Rode (Glenda), Gary (Susan) Rode; sisters Claire (Kevin) Riddiough, Ruth (Brian) Magas, Ann Meyers; step-brothers Wayne (Shannon) Brown, Bob (Gayle) Brown, Dick Brown as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. David was predeceased by his mother Helen Rode Lockhart, his adoptive parents Lloyd and May Christie, step-mother Erna Christie, father and mother-in-law Alvin and Pat Watt. He is also survived by best friends who are family Rick and Georgee Klein, Sallie Klein, Jorey and Meghan Klein and his special furry friend Chico.

His greatest joy in life was being the proud grandpa and papa of his precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He truly adored his family and he could never spend enough time with them.

Please join us to remember and celebrate David’s life at Baker Funeral Chapel on Friday, March 22 at 2:00 p.m. The service will be live-stream recorded. A luncheon will follow at the Best Western Wayside Inn (4103 - 56 St. Wetaskiwin). David has requested that no suits be worn, just jeans and t-shirts as he used to wear.
