We mourn the loss of Darrel Regan Bruno, a loving father, môsôm, brother, uncle, and cherished member of our community. He left behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and unwavering love for his family. Darrel served in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for 26 years and retired as a Staff Sergeant. Over those years he was committed to the safety and wellbeing of First Nations people.
Darrel was born on June 29th, 1960 in Ponoka, Alberta to Maria Lightning and Samuel “Dicky” Bruno. Darrel is survived by his children: Christina, Grant (Margaux), Daniel, Suzannah (Sheldon), Tristen (Mary), Ainsley (Michael), Cadence (Adam). Grandchildren: Sophia, Olivia, Emerson, Marshall, Oliver, Anders, Evelyn, Hunter, Danika, Amelia, Jameson, Maverick, Peyton, Kynley, Canyn, Ivan, Elise, Elijah, and Bentley. Life partners: Deborah, Peggy, and Georgina. Siblings: Perry Lightning, Janice Lightning (Dean), William “Chilly” Lightning, Annette Cattleman, Ray Saddleback (Lisa), Sherry Saddleback (Leon), and extended Bruno and Lightning families, and countless relatives and friends whose lives he touched.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Ponoka Funeral Home on Thursday, November 28, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. (livestream viewer located below) with the Interment Service following at Forest Home Cemetery in Ponoka.
A celebration of Darrel’s life will be held directly after the funeral with details to follow. All are welcome to join in remembering and celebrating a man whose life was a testament to love, strength, and community.
