Darcy Tocher Obituary

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Darcy Wayne Tocher in Ponoka, Alberta on Sunday, November 7, 2021, at the age of 57 years. Darcy was born in Calgary, Alberta on June 5, 1964.

Darcy is survived by his father and mother, Donald and Joanne Tocher; brothers Darren and Brent Tocher; as well as children Tony and Charlotte Tocher.

Darcy was always a man to follow the path less travelled. A member of the community and committed to the health and wellness of others. He lived his life as a minimalist with a passion for cars, coins, and household projects. Darcy’s legacy will live on with his family and friend and the passion he had for all things he did in life. Confidence, Strength, Loyalty, and Commitment were some of his greatest assets.

A wake service will be held in his honor in Vernon, British Columbia. The date and time to be determined.

Darcy suffered from schizophrenia. Darcy was the middle brother of a team of 3. Darcy was the Wild Flower of the bunch, always carving his own path - adventures, fights, love, and I’m sure a whole lot more. (which I’m excited to hear about as I’m sure they will be willing to share a few with us.)

Darcy went on to Marry Patty Sue Lanz on November 2, 1985 and fathered 2 children, Tony Alexander Tocher (35) and Charlotte Reanne Tocher (33).  Though young, they shared many memories with their father. One that stands above the rest: “One day when we were very little our father came home from an adventure he had been on. This time he had a new car it was a loud Blue with white racing stripes, Chev Nova. He told us we are going to Sakome lake. He piles us in the car (no car seat and we were little lol how times have changed). Once we got to the lake, he informed us if he shut off the car it would not start again. He found a spot to park and we played the day away at the lake, when it was time to go you could tell he wasn’t concerned at all. Confident to say the least. He loaded us back in the car and pulled the booster cable out of the trunk. Luckily for us, it was a busy day and parking was at a premium. It took a minute for him to wave someone down and offer to exchange the spot for a boost. We were on our way!!!”

In the winter of 1990, Darcy and Patty separated due to his illness and the commonwealth of their children.  Darcy continue to try to see his kids but struggles were aplenty. The onset of this illness was slight but grew worse as he aged with some good days and some not so good. Due to these swings, Darcy made the tough decision to relocate from Calgary to Ponoka where his illness could be better managed. This allowed him to distance himself from a friend circle that was not helping his situation, as well as ensuring his episodes would not impact his children's development. He was able to build a community of friends and relationships as a member of clubs and the community.

Confidence - believed in what he said and himself with no waiver
Strength - to acknowledge his Illness and take steps to curb and manage it while knowing he would sacrifice his family and relationships
Loyalty - he had very little personal belonging when he passed but he carried photos of those he loved and care for with him always.
Commitment - He was committed to doing what was required of himself for the best interest of his family and friend and mental health
