Dale Thompson

Our beloved father Dale B. Thompson, age 85, of Bashaw, Alberta died peacefully at his home on March 26, 2026.

Dale was predeceased by his wife Margaret (Roynon) Thompson; parents Hattie and David Thompson; sisters Wilma and Marion; brother Donald; and brother-in-law Allan.

He is survived by his son Brad; his daughter Jennifer; granddaughters Emily, Samantha, and Sophia; brother David; brother-in-law Karl; sisters-in-law Pat and Lorraine; various nieces and nephews; and very dear friends Sandy and Carl. Dale’s family and friends were very important to him, and his three grand kids were the light in his life.

Dale was a patient and kind father and grandfather and a very gifted athlete. He was the Captain of his Rosalind High School Championship Hockey Team, pitcher on various baseball teams, and a competitive curler. His peaceful nature eventually won out however, and he left competitive sports behind for a life he was very well suited for: Farming and Ranching.

Dale graduated from SAIT as an Agricultural Mechanic and farmed with his brother Donald for a number of years. Dale married Margaret in April of 1972, purchased a farm between Bashaw and Mirror, and started his own family. Dale spent many happy years on that Bashaw farm raising polled Hereford cattle, grain, and hay and developed many life long friendships along the way.

Dale was an avid outdoorsman. He loved camping with his family and his annual hunting trips to Nordegg. He had a lifelong love of horses, and always had a few around the farm to ride, drive, or in his later years just pet and enjoy. Dale loved all animals big and small, even the smelly little skunks that would come and visit him when he sat outside in his chair.

Brad and Jen would like to take this time to thank all of the people that have offered to help and that have offered their condolences. Donations can be made to the Bashaw United Church whose members have always been so special to us.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at  1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7 at the Bashaw United Church (5015 – 52 Avenue Bashaw, Alberta) with snacks and refreshments to follow on the lower level of the church.

The Interment will follow at 4:00 p.m. at the Melville Cemetery (approx. 5 miles west of Rosalind then 1 mile North on RR184).
