Carrie Patricia Kroening passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 25th, 2020 at age 83.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 65 years, Bob, and their four children, Kim (Margaret) Kroening, Tami Scott Gartner, Debra (Keith) Stebner, and Michael (Collette) Kroening. She was known as “Noonie” to her grandchildren Lindsay (Todd) Storm, Jordan (Sunme) Scott, Megan (Ivan) Unland, Scott (Briley) Stebner, Catherine (Jeff) Jones, Travis (Michelle) Stebner, Mark (Crystal) Kroening, Carmen (Scott) Wilson, Kimberly Kroening, Carlie Kroening, Kayla (Ben) Turner, Bob (Dayna) Kroening, Nathan (Amanda), Leah and Andy Gartner; and 18 great grandchildren. She will also be remembered by her sister, Marilyn (Wayne) McGarvey, and brother, Ken Kraft; as well as countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Gustav and Elexis Kraft, brothers George, Jewel, and Vern Kraft, parents-in-law Emil and Bertha Kroening, several brothers and sisters-in-law, and her son-in-law Jerry Gartner.

Carrie was born in Ponoka on January 30th, 1937 to Gustav and Elexis Kraft. She grew up on the family farm in Mecca Glen and moved to Ponoka when she was 14 years old to go to Ponoka Composite High School. She married Bob Kroening on November 26th, 1955 and they spent their life together in the same house on Riverside. Carrie regularly styled the hair of friends and family, and she was the first hairdresser at the Northcott Care Centre. She also worked in the offices of the Ponoka Auction Market and the Ponoka News and Advertiser. She then had a 30 plus year career as an accounting technician with Rowland, Parker and Associates. Throughout her life she volunteered with different groups and organizations in Ponoka: she was a leader in Brownies, canvassed for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, a long-time member of the Royal Purple, and a board member of the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre Auxiliary Board.  Carrie loved to bake and make jam, crochet, play scrabble and crib and do the crossword puzzle. Throughout their life together she and Bob enjoyed camping in the mountains, gardening, travelling, and spending time with friends and family.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Carrie’s name can be made to the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre Auxiliary.

Due to the current restrictions on gatherings, a celebration of Carrie’s life will be held at a later date.
