Bill (William) Ernst Speth

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bill (William) Speth of Wetaskiwin, Alberta. Bill was 93 when he left us peacefully on July 12, 2022 at Rosehaven Care Centre in Camrose.

Bill grew up in Nova Scotia with his brothers Kurt and Fred. When he became an adult he went to try his fortunes in Toronto, where he was a man of many talents. He did everything from roofing to bus driving. The west called him later in his life where he worked in the seismic field, eventually owning his own company, Speth Drilling, which when he retired, he sold to his eldest son Dave.

In his retirement he worked at a couple of golf courses, we think it was mostly for the free golf! He also found many hobbies to keep himself busy, he built a river boat and a number of beautiful cedar strip canoes; he learned how to play guitar, and took up wood working. He loved to work in his yard and spend time on his deck in the sun.

He loved to travel, and he visited many parts of Canada, and the world. The river boat he built was taken on two very memorable trips, the first with his brother Kurt, his son Dave, and friend Glen; and the second with his brother Kurt. They explored parts of the Yukon, Nelson, Nahanni and Liard Rivers. They were amazing adventures that created many memories, and great stories.

Bill is survived by his wife, Jean; his children, David (Anita), Donna (David), and Dan (Janet); and step children, Brian, Stephanie, and Holly (Patrick); his brother, Fred (Grace); his grandchildren, Kelly (Denni), Kristen (Evan), Hilary (Brad), Elysia, Tessa, Coral (Jeremy), Alyx, David (Lacey), Evan, Carter and Erik; and great grandchildren, Madison, Keegan, Mackenzie, Madelyn, Jackson, Elliot, Sopia, Jacob and Owen.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 17th, 2022 at 2:00 p.m., at the hall at By the Lake Park.
