Barbara Morrison Obituary

It is with deep sadness and great surprise that we announce the loss of Barbara Jean Morrison to our family and surrounding community in Red Deer Alberta and Lacombe Alberta on May 3, 2025.  She left in true Barb style (suddenly) after complications from her +/- 40th surgery from yet another wipeout. Barb was 76 yrs old, born in Wainwright, Alberta.  Barb lived most of her life in Lacombe,  AB and recently Red Deer, AB.

Barb passed away peacefully in Red Deer, AB on her own terms, with many of her immediate family by her side on the 56th anniversary of marriage to William “Bud” Morrison.

Barb had a true heart of gold, sometimes misunderstood by her intensity and blind passion to be there and do whatever was required to make things possible for others. Whether her intent was just to make who she was watching feel good or to make sure that they knew it was important they felt seen or cheered for at any event or accomplishment of any kind. She loved many people fiercely.

Barb spent most of her working career in Alberta Health Services in administration at the front desk of Lacombe hospital. She also spent a ton of time helping out in the communities of Lacombe and Red Deer.

Barb held in highest regard supporting people to do ALL of the things that made us happy, she held this at the very front of all of her thoughts and actions every single day. She also has ridden a bicycle or cross country skied more kilometres than most vehicles get in their lifetime.

Barb would go to many events of many varieties with Bud even if the events were not for her own family. This brought her great joy to laugh and celebrate victories and support losses of many varieties with many people over many years.

As many of us know Barb was one of a kind “tough”. Her photo should be beside the word “tough” in a dictionary. This was how most of us knew Barb. She did let little things get the best of her emotions, this was mainly because she owned everyone else’s problems as if they were her own.

She made countless meals, countless travels, donated countless moments of her time, supplied things required and folded and mended clothes until her hands did not work any longer. She dropped countless plans of her own to support her family and others in every possible way. Barb made memories! This was always to enable others to achieve some kind of accomplishment with each and every person that she could help. This included many family members, acquaintances and even strangers.

No one would have expected that another surgery would be the end of a woman who has been hit by multiple cars and had 1000's of wipeouts like clockwork. So often in fact, that we just started calling them “tip overs”. She ALWAYS bounced back no matter the level of injury! A new dent, break or scar was just another funny story to tell.

Now, Barb would certainly be upset if there was a formal funeral, as her main focus was not to be a burden to anyone. So while she is occupied raising a stink in her final resting place we will have a celebration of her life at the Lacombe Memorial Centre on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 2:30 p.m. There will be light snacks provided and a short program during this time.

She is survived by many extended family and her immediate family: husband Bud (William) Morrison; son Paxton (Alissa) Morrison with children Teagan, Kai, Ava, and Charlie; son Bryce (Angela) Morrison with children Eiley, Dayce, and Crimsyn; sister Lorna (Cyrus) Kotwall; and brother Bob (Cathy) Johnson. Barb was predeceased by her brother Jim (Cheryl) Johnson.
