Arnold passed away peacefully at Bashaw Meadows, Bashaw, Alberta on Saturday May 3, 2025 at the age of 97.
Arnold was born in Helenovka, Bessarabia, February 11, 1928. He grew up in Vellberg, Germany. Arnold immigrated to Canada at 24 years old and settled in Calgary, Alberta. He worked on a grain farm near Calgary for about one year. His passion was farming, and knew at some point he would own his own farm. In the meantime, he started his own construction company and built the Banffshire Inn. Following that he went to work for Cascade Construction as a superintendent and built nursing homes in Wetaskiwin, Leduc, Hay Lakes, NWT and Winnipeg.
He met and married Rosalia Rein on February 26, 1955 and shortly after, in 1965, bought and moved to the farm near Bashaw, Alberta. While he farmed and raised every animal possible, he also managed the Bashaw Hotel for many years. Bashaw was his home. He sold the farm in 2014 and moved to Bashaw Meadows, where he made great friends and knew so many of the staff members. When a band would show up to play, dad had a full “dance card”. He was always happy and would always tell the family that he had everything he could possibly want & need, and had nothing to complain about.
Left to mourn are Erich (Tanis), Irene (Rod), Herb, and Robert (Barb); grandchildren Keith (Jamie), Dan (Rebecca), Meghan, Kaegan (Keeley), and Trevor; great-grandchildren Reese, Oden & Arlo, Sawyer, Rogan & Cheyenne, Oliver, Liam & Emery, Nolan, Emery, Sid, Carson, Ciara & Daisy.
Arnold was predeceased by his son Roy; grandson Bryan; and granddaughter Amber.
A Graveside Service will be held for family & friends at the Bashaw Cemetery on Monday, May 12, 2025 at 3:30 p.m. with a Memorial Lunch to follow at the Zion Lutheran Church, located in Bashaw.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Bashaw Meadows and the staff at Wombold Family Funeral Homes in Bashaw.
