Alexander John (Jack) Plant
October 25, 1935 - February 16, 2025
The family of Alexander John (Jack) Plant are saddened to announce that on Sunday, February 16, 2025, just before sunset and after days spent surrounded by some of his favorite people, Alexander John (Jack) Plant passed away at the Wetaskiwin Hospital. He was 89 years old.
Jack married Dorothy Callum in Millet, Alberta, on August 12, 1960. They were blessed with three children, Susan, Darlene and Alex. After making their home in Wetaskiwin for many years, the family moved to Lloydminster in 1978. Family and friends were very important to Jack and Dorothy and they made sure to make time for many visits with their loved ones across the region.
Jack was a Red Seal Motor Mechanic and a master fixer like his father before him. He learned many of his skills by watching his father, Reuben, at work in his shop in Millet. He went on to build on those early skills to earn a living fixing pretty much anything with a motor - cars, trucks, tractors, small or large engines, oilfield machinery; anything with a motor was fair game. He had an uncanny ability to visualize the problem and create a solution and had no problem improvising if necessary.
Jack and Dorothy found a great deal of peace and enjoyment in the outdoors. They loved to spend time camping and fishing across Alberta, Saskatchewan and B.C. They would often find little out of the way areas where there was no one else around and and revel in the stillness.
Jack’s memory will be cherished by his children: Susan (Maurice) Van Nest, Darlene (Roman) Kiesh, and Alex (Cindy) Plant; his grandchildren: Victor Van Nest (Holly Benedict), Travis Van Nest (Emily Gray ) and Aaron Van Nest (Bret Jaclyn); Jennifer (Jens) Eggen, Stephanie (Michael) Moore, and Michael Kiesh; Brian (Amberlee) Plant and Jamie Plant as well as two treasured great-grandchildren: Nora Eggen and Alexander Plant. He is also mourned and remembered by his siblings, Tom (Marilyn) Plant, Sally (Nick) Matwek and Jim (Sharon) Plant and their families. Jack was predeceased by his wife Dorothy, his parents Reuben and Madeline Plant, his brother Dennis and Dennis’ wife Elaine, as well as numerous in-laws, extended family members and friends
The family would like to thank the staff of the Wetaskiwin Hospital Unit 33 whose skill and kindness made a difficult situation easier.
A Memorial Service will be held at Baker Funeral Chapel at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2025. This service will be Livestream recorded, and can be viewable at the bottom of this obituary. A luncheon will follow at the Wetaskiwin Seniors Centre (5216 54 Street)
If desired, memorial donations can be made to: Huntington Society of Canada (375 Hagey Blvd, Suite 11 Waterloo, Ontario N2L 6R5 Canada)
