Viola (Ekroth) MacKay

It is with great sadness that the family of Viola "Vi" MacKay announce her passing on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2019 at the age of 86 years.

Viola (mom) spent her springs and summers gardening in her beloved flower and vegetable gardens. If mom wasn’t planting or maintaining her beautiful gardens, she was planning for the next year. During the fall and winter months she enjoyed watching curling and cheering on her favorite hockey team, the Edmonton Oilers.

Mom’s greatest love was her family. She was a devoted mom, grandma and great-grandma. She will be deeply missed by her four children, Debbie (John) Kulych of Spruce Grove, Donald MacKay, Keith MacKay and Ian MacKay of Wetaskiwin; her 12 grandchildren, Todd (Jacquie), Amanda (Craig), Chelsea (Bryce),Cameron, Robbie, Doug, Mackenzie, Jade, Kyle, Jesse, Tanner, Levi; and her four precious great-grandchildren, Sophia, Natalie, Lincoln and Mercedez. Viola will also be missed by her brother, Lionel Ekroth; sisters, Myrtle Steele and Audry Andrejcin from Wetaskiwin; sister in law, Jean Ekroth from Edmonton; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Viola was predeceased by her husband, Donnie MacKay; parents, Walter and Christina Ekroth; sister and brother-in-law, Mabel and Red McKinnon; brother, Clifford (Jean) Ekroth; brother and sister in law, Robert and Donna Ekroth; and sister in law, Gladys (Lionel) Ekroth.

To honour Viola's wishes there will not be a funeral. A small private gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (5241 Calgary Trail NW #144, Edmonton, AB T6H 5G8).
