Mary Elizabeth (Dion) Marquis

Marie Elizabeth “Mary” Marquis (nee Dion), resident of Wetaskiwin, Alberta, formerly of Viscount, Saskatchewan, passed away in Wetaskiwin on November 16, 2019 at the age of 103 years. Mary was born in Onion Lake, Saskatchewan on July 27, 1916. She was born to parents, Pierre and Marie Adelina (nee Tremblay) Dion. Mary was baptized August 6, 1916, at Holy Rosary Church, Onion Lake, Saskatchewan. Mary’s father passed away when Mary was only two years old. Her mother remarried, but when Mary was nine years old, her mother passed away. Mary had three siblings, a sister, Mary Florestine; and brothers, Joseph Phillip, and Lawrence Joseph. When Mary was twenty three she married, Antoine Arthur Marquis, on October 4, 1939, at the Church of Bonne Madone in Wakaw, Saskatchewan. Mary and Arthur moved to the family farm near Lucasville and raised their six children, Joseph, Francis, Robert, Selven, Cecilia, and Dennis. Mary and Arthur retired in Viscount Saskatchewan. A number of years after Arthur’s death Mary moved to Wetaskiwin, Alberta. 

Mary is survived by her son, Joseph; daughter Cecilia (Gordon); daughter's in-law, Sophie, Josie, and Debbie; as well as fourteen grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur; and children, Francis, Robert, Selven and Dennis; daughter's in law, Viola and Mary.

She will be missed by family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Wetaskiwn Alberta on Friday, November 22 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held the following day, Saturday, November, 23 at 11:00 a.m., St. Alphonse Catholic Cemetery in Viscount, Saskatchewan.
