John Russell Galbraith

August 1, 1932 ~ October 3, 2017 (age 85) 85 Years Old

GALBRAITH; John Russell
August 1, 1932 - October 3, 2017
“His Name Was In The Book”

John Russell “Russ’ Galbraith was born in Brandon, Manitoba. He was predeceased by his son, Robert “Wayne” Galbraith and by his wife,  Audrey Linda Galbraith. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Mitchell and grandson, Brendan Mitchell.
A dedicated member of the R.C.M.P. , Russ was a man of principle and a respected Staff Sargent. He was always good for a laugh and a genuine smile. Russ was never afraid to speak his mind or give “the look” if he didn’t agree with something. He found great joy in later years when he worked at the  Foothills Hospital in Calgary where  he was the head of Security. Another time of joy in his life were the years spent with his grandson, Brendan. Many hours were spent together buying supplies and groceries for the cake shop “How Sweet It Is”. Other memories are the times spent going places and experiencing things with just “grandpa and his buddy”.
In his retirement years he spent his time travelling the world and experiencing life for what it was, joyful..but not always grand. During his final years he was quite content to be left alone to read his newspapers and watch CTV news. However, Russ still found joy in the family and staff members that took the time to sit and reminisce about what he had read in the newspaper that day. Throughout his life he knew and met many people and would wish that the memory of him was one of content and accepting the the idea that “when your name was in the book, it was time for you to go”.
A special thank you to all the Long Term Care & Kitchen Staff of the Wetaskiwin Hospital & Care Centre. A private family service will be held. Donations to the Stollery Children’s Hospital or the Alberta Humane Society are greatly appreciated.
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.
                                                                            Katherine Jenkins
