James Stenhouse Obituary

James (Jim) Wayne Stenhouse, beloved husband of Gloria Stenhouse of Lacombe passed away at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre on August 19, 2018 after a long battle with cancer, at the age of 70 years.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Gloria; his brothers Tom, Dave (Donna), and Gary (Lynn); and his sister Doloris (Ken).  He is also survived by his mother-in-law Lil Weich; brothers-in-law Bryan (Orti) and Rick (Kathy); sister-in-law Bonnie (Brian); as well as 20 nieces and nephews and 19 great-nieces and great-nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Marie, his sister-in-law Diane, and his father-in-law Dan.

Jim was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and moved to Dawson Creek at the age of 2.  At a very young age he entered a talent show at the Radio Station CJDC and won the singing competition.  The prize was $10.00 but more importantly, a beginning in music.  His passion for music carried on into his adult life.  He started out in Traditional to Rock n’ Roll to British Invasion to Country and finally to Gospel.  He loved singing in church.

Jim moved to Calgary shortly after his music career and married Gloria on November 1, 1987.  He began working in the oil and gas industry as Vice President (Marketing) at Venture Seismic and after a few years joined Gloria at Intercontinental Seismic Surveys Ltd. as Vice President.  Gloria started the company in 1996 and they worked along side each other until they retired in 2008.

Together they travelled to many places, most importantly Kenya several times helping out with A Better World.  They also enjoyed 30 years of going to Arizona, 9 of those wintering full time.

Jim will always be remembered for his generosity, hard work, always having a cheerful  and positive attitude, and his love for God, family and friends.  We were all blessed to have him in our lives and will miss him dearly, but we have a great Hope of a Resurrection when we will be reunited once again.

Friends wishing to see Jim and visit with the family are welcome to come to the College Heights Seventh-day Adventist Church (Bailey Chapel - lower level) from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 26.  A Memorial Service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 26 in the Main Sanctuary of the College Heights Seventh-day Adventist Church with a Memorial Reception following at the College Heights Christian School Gymnasium.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s name can be made to A Better World Canada.
