James MacKenzie Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James “Jimmy” MacKenzie.

Jimmy was born in Lacombe, Alberta on May 5, 1957 to Jim and Marion MacKenzie. He was the fourth of six children. Jimmy attended school in Mirror and Alix and went on to apprentice as a welder. After he received his ticket, he went on to have a wonderful career in the welding field working all over Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia.

Jimmy loved the outdoors and spent every minute he could enjoying hunting, fishing, and camping. These past few years he became an avid carpenter building decks, greenhouses, and chicken coops for his family. His love of gardening was his most recent passion. He spent hours watering, hoeing, and tending to his massive collection of vegetables, and we all benefited from his daily drop offs of onions, carrots, lettuce, and potatoes. He loved being in the garden every single day. Jimmy also couldn’t wait for the saskatoon berries to be ready to pick. He picked buckets and buckets until the bushes were berry free. This kept his sisters busy for days freezing, canning, and making jam.

Jimmy is mourned by his son Terry (Karen) and three precious grandchildren whom he adored, Parker, Rachel, and Logan; his brothers Herb (Laura) and Murray (Cathy); his sisters Bonny and Cindy (Ed); foster siblings Laurence (Lorna) and Ned (Barb); as well as many nieces and nephews.

Jimmy was predeceased by his Mother Marion; Father Jim; sister Heather; foster sister Linda; and his brother-in-law Jack.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2019 at the Mirror Community Hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted to Ducks Unlimited or any charity of your choice.
