September 22, 1998 - November 1, 2017

Erik Garthus age 19 years of Millet, Alberta and formerly of Admiral died suddenly on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre at Wetaskiwin, Alberta.

He was born at Shaunavon, Saskatchewan on September 22, 1998. Erik started school at Shaunavon Public School then attended Griffith Scott School at Millet for grade 7, Sacred Heart School at Wetaskiwin for grade 8 and completed grades 9 to 12 at Wetaskiwin High School. After high school Erik worked construction, then Diamond Energy as a roughneck. He recently moved back home to his mom’s place in Millet where he was looking for work. In his younger years in Shaunavon, Erik played basketball in school and took Tae Kwon Do. He enjoyed making clay figurines with his dad in the pottery shop and enjoyed fishing. He began playing football with Wetaskiwin Minor Football, played Rugby with the Druid Rugby Club in Edmonton and played football with the Leduc Wildcats winning the city championship one year while Erik was on the team.

He was predeceased by his grandfather Arnold Garthus and his uncle Mike Elmgren.

He is survived by his grandparents Grace and Clarence Faber and Jean Garthus; his mother Rhonda Watt and stepfather Bill Watt; his father Lloyd Garthus, stepbrother Tyson Watt, siblings Adam Thompson and Jazz Thompson (Jenn), Dustin Garthus and Rianna Garthus; aunt Char Elmgren, cousins Terry Elmgren (Brandy) and Alicia Elmgren (Kent); uncle Jason Faber (Suzanne), cousins Nick Faber, Ethan Faber and Noah Faber; aunt Linda Eisnor (Don), cousins Nolan (Kerri Lindquist) and their children Rylan and Kelan, Jonathan and Brendan; uncle Wayne Garthus (Brenda), cousins Zachary and Amy; uncle Dale Garthus and cousin Avery; and uncle David Garthus (Connie).

FUNERAL SERVICES:  Centre Street United Church in Shaunavon on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with Funeral Celebrant Bernadette Schneider officiating. Urn Bearers are Margie Barber and Linda Cuell and Honorary Pallbearers: Brennan Williams, Tomas Froese, Tyler Schroeder and Dustin Garthus. Adam Thompson will read a poem and Jazz Thompson and Rianna Garthus will present the eulogy.

OPEN HOUSE:  Saturday, November 18, 2017, Wetaskiwin County.  ​Come and Go after 2:00 p.m.
