Donald Tangjerd

Donald Tangjerd was born November 23, 1927 in Hoffer, Saskatchewan to Peder and Ingrid Tangjerd. He was the sixth of nine children. He started his first job at the age of 16 on a farm. This was at a time when the young men were being sent off to war, so he quit school to go to work.

He moved to Saskatoon at the age of 22 where he finished high school and met Norma Fenton. They were married on July 20, 1956 in Kelvington, Saskatchewan.

To their happy marriage were born four children: Donna, James (Jim), Shawna, and Dale.

Don started working in bulk oil stations in North Battleford, then to Meadow Lake and Rosetown, Saskatchewan before coming to Red Deer in 1973 and then to Ponoka in 1975. He moved his family to Alberta to begin a career with the Co-Operators until retiring in 1989.

In 1977 he was predeceased by his first wife Norma, and then in 1980 he married Eleanor Jess, who also had four children: Connie, Katherine, Susan, and Patricia.

His family and friends will remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather of seventeen, and great-grandfather of seven.

He will also be remembered for his wit and his jokes, his love of travel, and his love of sports.

He passed on to be with his Lord on March 8, 2018 at the age of 90 in the Ponoka Auxiliary Hospital.

He leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife Eleanor Tangjerd; children Donna Letwinetz (Wayne Vold), Jim (Norlyn) Tangjerd, Shawna (Kevin) Vandeven, Dale (Donna) Tangjerd, Connie (Bob) Pugh, Katherine (Rob) Steblyk, Susan Jess, and Patricia (Grant) Johnson; son-in-law Don Letwinetz; grandchildren Daneel (Jeremy), Jared (Brooke), Jamie (Dayne), Brettany (Leighton), Katrina, Anthony, Kiersten, Kelsey, Jason, Melissa (Tyler), Margo (Jesse), Christopher (Sarah), Jessica (Adam), Sean, Launa, Ashley, and Bryce;  great-grandchildren Jade, Raiden, Deneja, Deanerys, Keyauna, Karson, and Winston; his sister Mildrid (Ivar) Moen; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Don was predeceased by his first wife Norma Tangjerd; his parents Peder and Ingrid Tangjerd; siblings, brothers and sisters- in-law: Amanda (Magnus) Lotten, Arne (Dora) Tangjerd, Erling (Gertie) Tangjerd, Harald (Clara) Tangjerd, Orv (Verna) Tangjerd, Jim (Carol) Tangjerd, Irene (George) Gilbertson, and Arthur (Wilma) Fenton.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ponoka Funeral Home.
