Cecil "Cec" Hugh Colwell
Our heavenly Father peacefully drew Cecil Hugh Colwell into His loving embrace on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the age of 93. Cec was soulmate and dear husband of Ottilia Colwell.
One of five children, Cec grew up on a homestead in the Jarvie area. Cec volunteered for duty in the Canadian army during the Second World War. Upon his return to Canada he joined his brother Earl in the employ of the CPR as a wireless operator.
God gave Cec a tireless servant’s heart, evidenced by his active involvement with Wetaskiwin Full Gospel and his ongoing advocacy for his community. In addition to coaching hockey for 22 years and organizing Citizens on Patrol, Cec’s most outstanding legacy was facilitating the construction of two Palliative Care Suites at the Wetaskiwin General Hospital.
Cec really hit his stride when he began his real estate career at the tender age of 55 – a career which spanned 31 years. Cec’s generous spirit, caring heart and ready wit touched many lives in the Wetaskiwin area. Never at a loss for words, Cecil would encourage, cajole and joke with everyone he met. His bigger than life personality and genuine concern will be sorely missed.
Cec is survived by his loving wife Ottilia, his adopted children Henry (Jean) Jaffe and children; Anne (Don) Schultz and children; sisters Arlene Adair and Mavis (Elmer) Mantai; sister-in-law Joan Colwell and numerous nieces and nephews in the Colwell, Jaffe, and Hall families who saw him both as an uncle and a father figure.
Cecil was predeceased by his first wife Doris; father and mother William and Olive Colwell; brother and sister-in-law Ernie and Ruth Colwell; brother Earl Colwell; brother-in-law Stan Adair; in-laws, Gordon (Bell) Hall and Phyllis (Louis) Nicoll.
