PORAT, Alfred

June 25, 1934-March 8, 2019

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Alfred Porat in Wetaskiwin on March 8, 2019 at the age of 84 years. Alfred is lovingly remembered by his son, Rick (Judy) Porat of Camrose; daughter, Becky de Vries of Wetaskiwin; grandchildren, Greg, Angela (Tim), Melinda (Jeff), Kelsie (Chad), Kayleigh Porat and Sharene de Vries (Abel); great grandchildren, Raelyn, Aiden, Sydnie, Alice, Avery; a brother, Ed Porat and special friend, Yvonne Adair; as well as numerous relatives and friends. Alfred was predeceased by his wife, Myrtle; sons, Randy and Rod; son-in-law, Hugo de Vries, siblings, Adolf, Emma, Olga, Selma, Judy, Elsa, Verna, Ann, Martha, Adele; and by his parents, Edward and Olga Porat; and sister-in-law, Barbara Porat. Alfred was the youngest of 12 children born to Edward and Olga Porat. He attended the Fletcher School in Falun. He would later work for the CP Rail in Drumheller, AB. Here he met and later married Myrtle Patton in 1956. They lived here and had two sons, Randy and Rick. They relocated to the Falun area in 1960 and took over the old home place in 1963. Two more children were born, Rod and Becky. Randy passed away in 1977 and Rod passed away in 2004. His wife Myrtle passed away in 2009. Alfred stayed farming until 2017 when, due to Alzheimer’s he would leave the farm and move into Madyson Manor for just under 2 years. He then needed more care and was moved to Point’s West Living in October of 2018. He was taken to the Wetaskiwin Hospital on December 18, 2018 with pneumonia. He was later transferred to the Long Term Care in the Wetaskiwin Hospital where he would pass away peacefully in his sleep. He will be sadly missed. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, March 15, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 411- 2^nd Ave. Ma-Me-O Beach, Alberta, with interment to follow at Lakedell Cemetery.
