Eva Lorraine Blakey

1931 ~ 2024

Eva Lorraine Blakey (Nichol) arrived in this world on the 6th of May 1931 as the second of four children to Elsie and John Nichol in the village of Sidmouth, BC. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on the 1st of April 2024 at St. Albert, AB. She graduated from Arrowhead High School in 1949, then moved to Vancouver to enrol in Nursing College and, upon graduating, went to work at the Vancouver Psychiatric Hospital. During a family gathering in Vancouver, she met John Oliver Blakey in the spring of 1953. After a short courtship, they were married on the 26th of December 1953. While they started their married life and family in Fort Steele, BC, they moved to numerous places within BC and eventually to Alberta, settling in the hamlet of Gwynne in 1978. In 2007, Eva left rural life and moved to Wetaskiwin with her daughter Lois. In 2016, she moved to Lorne’s place in Medicine Hat, AB. In 2019, she was on the move again, up to St. Albert, where she lived in Chartwell and Citadel care facilities and was watched over by Leonard and his family.

Eva leaves behind a legacy of five children Lorne (Diana), Lorraine (Gary), Lois, Leonard (Dellyn), and David (Lisa); ten grandchildren, Lorne and Diana’s family of Teresa, Karen, Aaron, and Kimberly; Lorraine and Gary’s family of Leshell and Ebonie; Lois’s daughter Krista; Leonard and Dellyn’s daughter Emma. There are thirteen great-grandchildren.

Eva was predeceased by her brothers Everett and Allan, her husband John and her daughter Lorraine and is survived by her brother Edward.

Eva will be laid to rest in the Crooked Lake Cemetery, ​on Monday, April 8th, 2024 at 1:00 p.m., in Gwynne AB,  followed by her Funeral and Celebration of Life at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Wetaskiwin, AB at 3:00 p.m.
