Wayne Frederick Wicks was born in Peterborough, Ontario on December 23, 1943 to Lorne and Ella Wicks.  Wayne spent his early years in Peterborough and then Coe Hill, Ontario.  In 1951 the family moved to Lindsay, Ontario where at 11 years old Wayne accepted Christ as his saviour at the William Street Baptist Church.
In 1957 his family moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba where Wayne finished his High School education and met his wife Carol in his last year of Grade 12.  He attended Winnipeg Bible College for four years and received a Bachelor of Theology degree.
Wayne pastored his first church at the age of 21, while in his second year of Bible School - Mountbatton Baptist Church.  In 1966 Wayne married his High School sweetheart Carol Glynn and they began a life of ministry together.
Wayne pastored for 49 years - in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Anola, Manitoba, Midale, Saskatchewan, Sherwood Park, Alberta, Drumheller, Alberta, and concluded his ministry in Wetaskiwin, Alberta at the Mission Church, retiring in 2013.
Wayne was predeceased by his father, Lorne Wicks and his granddaughter, Jasmine Gillett.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol; four children, Sylvia (Bill) Gillett, Linda Belfry, Mark Wicks and Ken (Andrea) Wicks; mother, Ella Wicks; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sister, Donna (John) Melcher; brother, Donald (Jane) Wicks; two nieces and two  nephews.
In Wayne’s memory, donations are gratefully accepted to the Wetaskiwin Mission Church Building Fund or to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
