Walter Gustav Breitkreuz

September 7, 1939 ~ March 18, 2017 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Walter Gustav Breitkreuz
September 17, 1939 - March 18, 2017

The family and friends of Walter are deeply saddened and shocked, at his sudden passing, on the family farm. Born and raised on the Theodor Breitkreuz homestead in downtown Falun, AB; Walter lived a good life of 77 years, in the community he loved.
Walter was his own man and lived the life he chose; loving his music and his farm where he was a cattle and grain farmer. He tried his hand at dairy and raised chickens, but beef cattle were the mainstay. Wally worked for several companies in his day including Ace Construction. He was a skilled concrete worker and opened his own company, WG Breitkreuz Concrete and from there, proceeded to cement his place around the community. Walter was a lifetime member of the Falun Community League and served as an example as to what a hard-working man could achieve. He earned the respect of his community and will be missed at the Co-op. His real passion, though, was his music. He started as a young man singing at the Full Gospel Church with his sister Ida. Soon he would master the guitar and be asked to perform wherever he went. He joined the Alley Cats and performed for many years before he retired due to health issues. Today he sings with the angels.
Walter is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Doreen (Torvinen), his son Daryn (Arlene) and daughter Heather (Michael Slaunwhite). His two grandsons, Markus and Nate, were a special joy to him. Also dear to Walter, were his son-in-law’s children, Lee and Ashley (Rob - and their children, Landen and Jasmin).  Dearly remembered by his sisters Erna Dargatz, Ida (Don) Dargatz, Esther (John) Crabtree, sister-in-law Angie, and his special, almost twin brother Robert and his loving wife Johanna; his sisters-in-law Ivie Selin and Louise Torvinen and brother-in-law Wymand (Irene) Lambe. Walter also has numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends whom he held dear. Walter was predeceased by his parents Theodor and Olga Breitkreuz; brother Paul; mother-in-law, Impi Torvinen; brothers-in-law Marvin Dargatz, Stanley Torvinen, James Selin; sister-in-law, Elsie Lambe and infant daughter Cheryl.
Donations in Walter’s memory are gratefully accepted to the Alberta Diabetes Foundation, or the Falun Community Rink (cheques payable to P.L.A.C.E. - c/o Box 17, Falun, AB T0C 1H0).
