Rick Van Alstyne

It is with very heavy hearts that we say goodbye to a beloved father and friend. He was a man who embraced traditional ways of life which came from his love of farming. He always loved a good joke and had such an infectious laugh  (sometimes with a wheeze if he laughed hard enough). He had a passion for cars and motorbikes and could never pass up a perfect day to ride. His talent and artistry for upholstery was reflected in the many projects he turned into masterpieces. He will be missed. You are now resting peacefully on the perfect summer day riding your Harley on the perfect stretch of highway.

Rick is remembered by his daughters Kiersten Hawthorn (Joseph Johnson) and Dannel Ogle (Kolten) and their mom Sheila Bartsch; his best friend Inger Laing; brothers Jim Van Alstyne (Laura Dee) and Ormand Van Alstyne; sisters Elaine Dennis (Mike) and Judy Primeau (Art); nephews Marlow Van Alstyne, Devon Dennis (Libby), and Troy Nielsen (Sherri); nieces Tracy Baker (Gord), Brandie Seaborn (Kurt), Christine Cretney (Shane), and Terra Nielsen; great-nephews Matt, Jace, Shylo, Logan, Casen, Theodore, Kawston, Aiden, Jordan, Jerrick, and Justin; great-nieces Megan, Merinda, Cassie, Tasha, Tonya, Shyann, Jaylisa, and Caitlyn; as well as numerous great-great-nieces & nephews, other relatives and friends.  Rick was predeceased by his mother Shirley, father Frederick, nephew Travis, niece Talina, and sister Bert.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Ponoka Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2017.  The Interment Service will be held at Alto Reste Cemetery in Red Deer at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2017.

Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Central Alberta Women's Shelter, the LaSalle Domestic Abuse Shelter, or any charity of your choice.
