Welcome to the memorial page for

Marion Lois (Malmas) Gilchrist

August 6, 1929 ~ January 5, 2018 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Marion Lois Gilchrist (nee Malmas)

Marion was the middle child of John and Ella Malmas and her early years were spent on their farm southeast of Wetaskiwin. In 1951, Marion married Dawne Gilchrist and moved two miles down the road. Dawne and Marion lived on their farm in the Angus Ridge area for sixty years and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2016. Marion steadfastly partnered with Dawne in his many ventures as a farmer and businessman.
Along with Dawne, Marion travelled with the Good Sams for many years. She was also a member of the local Women’s Institute. A deft hand with a needle, Marion won several prizes for her beautiful hardanger embroidery. She was equally adept in the kitchen and always had fudge or squares on hand for visitors. Marion thought every female cat should enjoy motherhood and had a special affinity for any little animal who needed a little extra love.
Marion is survived by four children – Dawna, John (Catherine), Bill (Faye) and Tom (Connie). She is also survived by her sister, Muriel Hay, grandchildren Michael (Kristina), Natasha (Shawn), and Chelsey (Elizabeth), four great grandchildren, her godson, Bob Malmas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Ken Malmas, and her husband, Dawne.
