Welcome to the memorial page for

Irene D. Ellertson

September 8, 1954 ~ June 26, 2017 (age 62) 62 Years Old

Irene’s family is saddened to announce her sudden passing at home on June 26, 2017. Irene was born the sixth into a family of eight to Harry and Ester Ellertson. Irene grew up on a farm near Rimbey where she developed a strong love for all animals and the outdoors. Her most loved animal was her horses and she was able to enjoy riding them on many occasions on trail rides in the mountains and local area poker rallies, often sharing the experience with large groups of family and friends. Growing up on the farm, she became dad’s right-hand helper from a very young age helping, learning, and caring. She was mom and dad’s caring support until their passing. Irene was always available to help others and was a very strong and caring support to many family and friends. Irene was a very dedicated employee for both staff and customers during her 30 years at Sommer Home Hardware. Irene also volunteered many years with the Stampede Association and helped on the Ducks Unlimited committee. Irene will be deeply missed by many.

She is survived by her brothers Harold and Stan (Carol); sisters Mary Ann (Garry) Hrycyk, Doreen McIntosh, and Karen (Joe) McHenry; and a close friend Linda McDonagh and her daughter Kelin. She will also be deeply missed by many nieces and nephews, as well as her aunt Irene. She was predeceased by her parents Ester and Harry, brothers Albert and James (as an infant), and one sister-in-law Bev Ellertson.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Irene’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Ponoka at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2017 with the Interment Service following at the Forest Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the M.S. Society, Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Diabetes Association, or any charity of your choice.
