Douglas Earl Sparks

Mr. Douglas Earl Sparks of Ponoka, Alberta, passed away peacefully surrounded by his devoted wife Carol, and his loving family at the Ponoka General Hospital on September 18, 2016 at the age of 70 years.

 Douglas was born July 25, 1946 in Wetaskiwin, Alberta and spent his early years in Ponoka with his parents Earl and Dot Sparks and his siblings Dwayne, Daryl, Janice and Colin.  In his adult life, Doug lived in a variety of locations both within Canada and abroad.  His working life was spent mostly in the heavy construction business with the majority of his later years being in project management.  Doug loved spending time with family and friends, and will be remembered for his infectious smile, contagious laugh and that mischievious twinkle in his eye.  He loved all sports but particularly loved to golf.  Doug will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife Carol Sparks, his children Angela Penner and her husband Andrew, Daryl Sparks, Daren Sparks, Nadine Smith and her husband Kevin, Martin Sparks and his wife Amardeep.  Douglas was predeceased by their mother Francine.  He will also be remembered by his brother Daryl and his wife Patti, his sister Janice, stepchildren Joanna MacDougall and Rosa MacDougall, 10 grandchildren:  Janna, Michael, Bridget, Tyler, Adam, Connor, Ruby, Rowan, Josie and Nash, 3 great grandchildren: Erik, Carter and Blake as well as many other family and friends around the world. He was predeceased by his parents Earl Sparks and Dorothy Sparks, his brother Dwayne Sparks and brother Colin Sparks.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Ponoka Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2016 with the Interment Service following at the Forest Home Cemetery.

Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation, Alberta Cancer Foundation, or any charity of your choice.
