Clarabelle Audrey Raab of Ponoka passed away suddenly as a result of a motor vehicle accident on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at the age of 82 years. Clara was born in Wetaskiwin on October 2, 1928. Clarabelle is survived by five children and six grandchildren: son Gary Raab; daughter Linda Goehring (Lee) and grandchildren Brandi and Blake; son Eldon Raab (Debra) and grandchildren Julia and Brittney; daughter Mary-Lynn Allen and grandchildren Morgan and Adam; and son Bryon Raab. She is also survived by two sisters Lorraine and Rosella and her brother Ronald. She was predeceased by her husband Henry Raab and her parents Audrey and Jim Johns. Clarabelle’s grandparents were farmers and homesteaders southeast of Wetaskiwin in the New Norway area. She attended the Angus Ridge School which was down the lane from the family farm. Clarabelle attended Olds Agricultural College taking home economics. She married Henry Raab of Keremeos, BC on August 1, 1950. They travelled about western Canada for 12 years while Henry worked in the oil fields. Henry died tragically in a gas plant accident on June 9, 1964. Clara re-settled in the Ponoka/Rimbey area. She drove school bus and taxi as a means of supporting her family. Her pastimes included bowling, gardening, and at the age of 57 became a drummer in a band. A celebration of Clara’s life will be held at the Ponoka Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2011. A private family Interment Service will be held at Forest Home Cemetery.
