Welcome to the memorial page for

Carl Hemming Jacobsen

November 21, 1939 ~ October 28, 2017 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Carl Hemming Jacobsen, an aficionado of life and his work, passed away peacefully in the company of his eldest daughter, at sunrise the 28th October, 2017.

Carl was born in a village in Horbelev, Denmark in 1939 and immigrated on his own to Canada in 1958 to build a new life for himself. He set a perfect example of positivity, brute strength, stamina, and fortitude, as he never gave up on his original dream. He successfully created a life that he loved and was a righteous, generous, patient, and most loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, friend, and husband throughout his 77 years. His life’s work was greatly enhanced by his relationships with his many trusted and reliable contractors, sub-contractors, business affiliates, mentors, tenants, and acquaintances. As news of his passing has circulated in his community, many have said that,  “Knowing Carl, he will be building houses in heaven”. He was passionate about his work, and his home brought him great peace throughout his life.

Carl is predeceased by his first wife, Lenora (Benkie) Jacobsen (1942-1985), and is survived by his 3 daughters, Shelley Buss, Darlene Maalouf, Karla Jacobsen and their families, as well as his wife Sonia Jacobsen and her family. Carl’s love, humor, kindness, and goodwill has touched many hearts and his family and friends are currently spread throughout the world including Canada, United States, Australia, Vietnam, Lebanon, and Denmark. Carl was very appreciative of his cell phone and the ability to Facetime which enabled him to communicate in-vivo and with those he loved, as well as staying in contact with his business affiliates. This was especially true as he grew to accept the final chapter of his life was near. He was a man with endless gratitude and both he and his family are forever touched by the amazing care of his health care team lead by Dr. S Greyling; Ponoka Community Home Care; and the nursing and support staff at the Goal Unit, Ponoka General Hospital, ER and Palliative Care Unit.

Carl will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by those who knew him best. As per his request there will be no funeral service. His three daughters spoke at length to him regarding his wishes. Carl wanted to be remembered as a hard-working, upright citizen, who embraced the beauty of being alive. A celebration of life event may be announced at a later date. In his honor, donations can be made to: “Canadian Mesothelioma Foundation; http://www.cmfonline.org/”, “Ponoka and District Health Foundation/ Palliative Care” http://www.ponokahealthfoundation.com/how-to-donate”, or the “Ponoka Food Bank”.

We miss you so much but know you are with us in spirit. Peace be with you and you will live in our hearts and inspire our decisions and actions forever. Amen.

Carl Hemming Jacobsen (Nov. 21, 1939 – Oct. 28, 2017)
