Amy Elinor Backstrom was born at home in Highland Park, Alberta on June 17, 1914, the youngest of Gus and Elizabeth Backstrom’s eight children. She was raised on a farm and attended the Kensington, Ferintosh, New Norway and Wetaskiwin schools. She and her family attended the church which stood just up the hill from the farm where her parents were charter members and attendance was an important part of their lives. It was there that she came to claim her faith in Christ which followed her through life.
She completed Camrose Normal School in 1932 and graduated with a teacher’s certificate. She taught school in Alder Flats, Highland Park, Edberg and Meeting Creek. In 1939 she married John Enarson, the boy next door; they had four children and farmed in the Highland Park district. After their children left home, they travelled extensively.
After her husband died, she remained on the farm for two years and then moved to an apartment in Wetaskiwin and then into the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in 2005.
She passed away on October 8, 2016 at the age of 102 years and 4 months. She was predeceased by her husband, all seven siblings and one great grandchild. She leaves to mourn her four children, Roland (Tilly), James (Barbara), Donald (Penny) and Ruth Eckford (Bill); six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Good Samaritan Society (Good Shepherd Lutheran Home). 4702 Northmount Drive, Wetaskiwin, AB T9A 3T3
